Environmental Conservation in Tanzania
We empower communities to create positive environmental change through renewable energy, reforestation, and sustainable agriculture practices.
Sustainable Planet Foundation (SPF) is a Tanzanian-based non-governmental organization (NGO) established in 2024 to promote sustainable, inclusive, and equitable development in the United Republic of Tanzania.
Sustainable Planet Foundation (SPF) is a Tanzanian-based non-governmental organization (NGO) established in 2024 to promote sustainable, inclusive, and equitable development in the United Republic of Tanzania.
The Foundation was formed in response to persistent environmental, social, and economic challenges affecting vulnerable and marginalized communities, including climate change, environmental degradation, poverty, food insecurity, limited access to clean energy, unemployment, health risks, and education gaps.
SPF aligns its work with Tanzania Development Vision 2025, relevant national policies, and global frameworks like 2030 Agenda for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). While environmental protection and climate action remain core priorities, SPF adopts an integrated, multi-sectoral approach that links environmental sustainability with social inclusion, economic empowerment, and human development.
The Foundation implements community-centered interventions across environmental conservation and climate resilience, sustainable livelihoods, renewable energy access, food and nutrition security, education and skills development, public health awareness, and youth and women empowerment.
SPF emphasizes participatory planning, community ownership, and evidence-based solutions, integrating indigenous knowledge with modern technologies. Through partnerships with government, communities, civil society, academia, and the private sector, SPF strengthens local capacities and supports long-term, resilient development.
To empower communities to affect positive change in their societies by providing knowledge, resources, and opportunities to build a better tomorrow — starting right here, right now.
Building a present and future in which people live in congruence with the environment
We are committed to upholding the highest standards of honesty, transparency, and accountability in all our actions and decisions. At SPF, we believe that trust is earned through consistent ethical conduct and open communication with our communities, partners, and stakeholders. We are answerable for the resources entrusted to us and the impact of our work, ensuring that our programs reflect our words and our values.
We believe sustainable development is only possible when everyone's voice is heard. SPF is dedicated to engaging diverse community members, with a special focus on traditionally marginalized groups, including women, youth, persons with disabilities, and indigenous communities. We actively create spaces for equal participation, leadership, and decision-making, ensuring that our programs reflect the collective aspirations of the communities we serve.
Our work is driven by a commitment to long-term, scalable, and environmentally responsible solutions. We prioritize initiatives that not only meet current needs but also safeguard resources for future generations. SPF champions projects that maintain ecological balance, strengthen community resilience, and foster economic opportunities that endure beyond project lifespans.
We recognize that collaborative action amplifies impact. SPF actively seeks and nurtures strategic partnerships with local communities, government institutions, civil society organizations, academic institutions, and the private sector. Through these alliances, we harness collective expertise, resources, and networks to achieve shared environmental and social goals, ensuring greater inclusivity, reach, and sustainability.
From reforestation to renewable energy, we're creating lasting environmental impact across Tanzania's coastal regions.
Kisarawe Green Initiatives Program is implemented during the rainy seasons and focuses on the annual planting of at least 10,000 trees, alongside environmental awareness and practical conservation actions for pupils, students, and local communities in Kisarawe District. The program is implemented in collaboration with schools, the Tanzania Forest Services (TFS), and the Kisarawe District Council, aiming to promote sustainable environmental practices and long-term stewardship of natural resources.
In Kisarawe District, many children are unable to attend school because they lack basic essentials like uniforms and supplies. To change this, our "Dressing the Future, Saving Life Project" aims to provide school uniforms and essential learning materials to 2,500 students and 1,500 pupils for the 2027 school year. Thanks to previous support, our project has already empowered local communities by providing 8 sewing machines to women's groups, with 7 more machines remaining to expand this initiative. These machines not only help women generate income but also support the project's goal of supplying school uniforms and essentials to children in need.
Aiming to eradicate dependence on charcoal and firewood as energy sources in Tanzania. We catalyze increased use of low-emissions alternative technologies through clean cooking energy, raising awareness and educating the public on the importance, sustainability, and accessibility of renewable energy to reduce deforestation and greenhouse gas emissions.
Participating in agroforest initiatives implemented by Future Africa Company Limited in the Coastal Region, prioritizing Kisarawe district. The project aims to increase nutrition and farmers' income through diverse yields while enhancing biodiversity. We transform subsistence agriculture into agroforest practices for smallholder farmers, featuring ficus, cashew nuts, oranges, mango, gliricidia, pineapple, sweet potatoes, maize, tangerine, and cowpeas.
Conducted in collaboration with Kisarawe District Councils and other stakeholders every month, specifically during the last Saturday of each month. These regular activities keep our communities clean and foster environmental responsibility.
